Children Entering Kindergarten (2024-2025)
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We have begun the registration process for children entering Kindergarten next year. This year, there are some important changes that will affect this process. For the 2024/25 school year, the State of Connecticut has changed the requirements for students eligible to enter Kindergarten.
A child must now turn 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2024 to enter Kindergarten. However, a parent or guardian of a child who will turn 5 years of age between September 2, 2024 and January 1, 2025 may request for their child be allowed to enter Kindergarten this fall. The school district is then obligated to assess the child to determine if the child is developmentally ready to enter Kindergarten.
All requests for a child to enter Kindergarten early must be made in writing to: Jill Shamback, Principal, Sayles School, 25 Scotland Road, Baltic, CT 06330 or via email at jshamback@spraguek12.org. We recommend that parents register their child as soon as possible to allow the staff at Sayles School time to schedule an assessment appointment, if necessary. Children who will be 4 years of age or miss the new cut off for entering Kindergarten may apply to our preschool program. Currently, there are open slots in this wonderful, half day program that is NAEYC accredited.
